median - the middle number in a set of data after the data have been arranged in order

median of 2,5,6,8,9 is 6

median of 1,3,6,8,9,10 is 7

range

range - the positive difference between the largest and smallest values in the set
range of 4,8,5,6,9,1,3,5,8,6

1,3,4,5,5,6,6,8,8,9


9-1=8
range is 8

mean

mean - a measure of central tendency

the sum of a set of valuesdivided by the number of values in the set
mean of 6,4,8 is

add up all the numbersand divide the result by how many numbers there are

6+4+8=18
18 divided by 3= 6
therefor the mean is 6

mode

The most frequently occuring number in a set of data

Mode and Most both have four letters

mode of 3,5,7,7,9, is 7

mode of 2,2,4,6,6,8,11 is 2 and 6

mode of 1,2,3,4,5 is no mode

Ordering decimals from greatest to least

Q. 2.0287; 0.287; 1.8954; 1.0287

First you look at the whole numbers , If they all have whole numbers see which has has the greatest and if they don't, move on to the tenths.

In the tenths you do the same thing you look for which has the greatest

For the hundredths and thousandths you also do the same thing.

A. 2.0287, 1.8954, 1.0287, 0.287

Adding Mixed Number

A mixed number is a number made up of a whole number and a proper fraction such as...

1 2/3 correct 2 3/2 wrong

eg. 1 1/2 + 1 1/4 =2 3/4

An Improper fraction - is a fraction that has a greater numerator than the denominator

eg. 9/8, 5/2, 117/3

Divisibility Rules

Rule for

1, all whole numbers are divisible by 1

2, all even whole numbers are divisible by 2

3, add up the digits and if the sum is divisible by 3 the number is divisible by 3

eg.4545, 4+5+4+5= 18 18 is divisible by 3 meaning 4545 is divisible by 3

4, If the number is divisible by 2 twice with no remainder

5, all whole numbers that end in 0 or 5 is divisible by 5

Value

Value - a known or calculated amount
Eg. 2 X 2 = 4

4 is the value

a) 4/6 - 2/6 = 2/6 lowest term 1/3

b) 6/7 - 4/7 = 2/7 lowest term 2/7

16 - you have to find out if the number is divisible by either 2,3,4,5,6,8,9.

first only look at the whole number, ignore the decimals

eg.9839

now go through divisibility rules for 2,3,4,5,6,8,9.

17 - Make a two digit number using the ones place (first) tens place (second)

eg.4524

24 is the number, first find all the factors of 24 then determine which ones are prime

24 - 1,2,3,4,6,8,12,24.

prime factors - 2,3.

Rule for 9

The sum of the digits is divisible by 9,

eg. the number is 18972, add all the digits up. 1+8+9+7+2=36

36 is divisible by 9 so that means 18972 is divisible by 9

Here are some more examples,

eg. 4+6+3+2+1+5+6+9+7+2=4+5= 9

9is divisible by 9

eg. 8+1+9+6+3+7+2+4+5 = 4+5 = 9

9 is divisible by 9

eg. 3+7+8+3+6+5+4+7 = 4+3 =7

7 is not divisible by 9
